Measuring
is essential when it comes to making curtains and blinds, and every
window is different. Here are some basic steps to measuring...
1
- Decide on your fixing position, i.e. in recess / on wall / on window
frame:

2
- Check for any obstructions i.e. window catches / sockets / tiles /
handles:

3
- Consider whether you want to hide the window frame or keep it visible,
some decorative frames are too attractive to hide and should be a feature:

4
- Always order curtains and blinds 'width x drop'
5
- Make sure you specify whether your measurement is the recess width
or the desired fabric width:

6
- Remember, if measuring a recess width, measure the top, middle and
bottom, and give the narrowest measurement
7
- If fixing outside a recess, a 75mm overlap on both the width and
drop is recommended
8
- If fixing a blackout blind outside a recess, a 2 overlap on
both the width and drop is recommended to reduce the 'glow'
9
- State all sizes to the nearest mm
10
- Use a steel tape measure if possible so the measurement is more accurate
